We have visited MDS I ( by trading in to it) several times over the years which is why we recetly bought a unit there (2011) and are looking forward to a week there in September. We have never cared for the lay out of MDS II or the floor plans. The Marriott run complex continues to be kept up nicely and the fees are reasonable. A very responsible board of directors is in place. The lock out feature on our two bedroom gives maximum privacy to friends or family who join us yet just close enough. I like the flixibility of selcting the unit to occupy at check in. The desk staff has always been quite accomodating as to whether upstairs or downstairs or near or far from a pool or a particular view or exposure. My only complaint (ever) was the time we selected a unit that was too close to the adjacent (and very nice) Marriott hotel. Their AC equipment was a little too loud to suit my taste so we simply didn't stay in that area on subsequent visits. We happen to like staying in Palm Desert when the temperature is over 100 or even 110 degrees. The pools are great and the restaurants are uncrowded.
We've stayed at the Marriott Desert Springs Villas I a few times. We've always enjoyed ourselves. A friend just came back and was upset because they no longer allow you use privilege for the JW Marriott. What a disappointment. I confirmed that with the resort before I wrote this. The JWM is really nice. You have to pay an extra fee per day to use it.
Overall, my experience at Marriott's Desert Springs Villas was a fantastic one. The resort itself is conveniently located by shopping areas and outside restaurants. Also, the resort had enough amenities than one did not need to travel anywhere. The shops and restaurants onsite were first class! Our unit was just adjacent to the golf course (by request) and in a very quiet and serene area which backed to a small lake with ducks. Pools and spa were right next door. It was a week of total relaxation and rest, enjoying the beauty of the California scenery. The unit was a lock-off and slept 4 comfortably. Mini frig, microwave, and sink made eating a light breakfast in the room convenient. The beds were very comfortable and the extra large bathroom was very roomy even for three women! The room was very clean and maid service came daily to address any needs. Even though it was a very large resort it was very quiet and comfortable.
Marriott Desert Springs I is next door to Desert Springs II. The Desert Springs 2 is 5 years newer. And it is very very nice. We visited there and were blown away. Marriott really knows how to do timeshares right. But Marriott Desert Springs I is really nice too.
The rooms are large and spacious, very clean and updated. The appliances are nice and work great. The views of the golf course if fantastic. The grounds are impeccable. They are gorgeous.
We ate at the restaurant and although a tad pricey, it is great. We had steaks (sirloin and filet) and it was great. You don't leave feeling like you got overcharged. You feel like you just treated yourself to a nice night out.
The staff is so friendly and helpful. You actually get the feeling that they do care and they do like their job. We travel alot and that is an unusual event.
The golf course is amazing. It is kept like a PGA course. The spa is fantastic. They make you feel like a million bucks. It's a very classy management. Marriott certainly has their act together in the timeshare business. We are considering a purchase of a unit from them. We just don't know where yet. Go for a visit, you won't forget it.
